Introduction to .NET Development with Delphi 8

This seminar is designed to get you up and running with Delphi 8 for the Microsoft .NET Framework. It begins with a general discussion of the .NET framework, with emphasis on the similarities and differences between .NET and traditional Windows computing. It continues with a review of the new Delphi 8 IDE (integrated development environment), with special attention to the similarities and differences between it and Delphi 7's IDE.

This seminar then continues with a look at a number of specific .NET technologies and how you use them to build applications. The first major topic is database development. Here you learn about ADO.NET, the data access layer of the .NET framework, as well as the custom Borland .NET Data Provider (BDP.NET).

Next we turn our attention to XML development in .NET. Topics discussed include integrating XML documents with ADO.NET DataSets, as well as how to create, edit, and save XML documents programmatically.

This seminar continues with a look at Web development using ASP.NET. Here you learn how to design Web forms, how to create data-based Web applications, as well as how to control access to your data using Web services. A comparison between ASP.NET and Delphi 7's Web-related technologies is also provided.

The final section of this seminar covers integration and migration. Topics discussed include accessing your existing libraries using Delphi 8, how to incorporate Delphi 8 executables in your Win32 applications, and how to convert an existing Delphi 7 (or earlier) application to Delphi 8. Strategies for development that must target both Win32 and .NET are discussed throughout this section.
